Full job description
Lead Principal, Corporate Development
Company: Fortescue
Location: Perth, Western Australia
Employment: Monday to Friday, office-based
Reports to: Senior Manager, Corporate Development
Position overview
Fortescue is seeking a commercially minded transaction professional to identify, evaluate and progress opportunities that diversify its portfolio. The position covers acquisitions, earn-in joint ventures, strategic investments and partnerships, from initial assessment through due diligence, negotiation and execution.
The role combines detailed financial analysis with senior-level commercial discussions. It requires someone who can lead transaction workstreams, coordinate advisers and internal teams, and make clear recommendations concerning value, risk and strategic fit.
Key responsibilities
- Assess acquisition, joint venture, investment and partnership opportunities against Fortescue's strategic priorities.
- Build and review valuation models, test assumptions and incorporate financial, commercial, operational and technical findings.
- Lead transaction workstreams and coordinate due diligence involving internal teams and external advisers.
- Develop transaction structures, commercial options and negotiation strategies with relevant stakeholders.
- Engage with counterparties and advisers to advance negotiations and resolve transaction issues.
- Monitor mergers and acquisitions and market developments across metals and critical minerals to identify potential opportunities.
- Prepare and present recommendations to investment committees, senior executives and the board, explaining strategic rationale, value, risks and alternatives.
- Work with internal teams to support the integration of completed acquisitions.
Required experience and qualifications
Fortescue is looking for candidates with experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, corporate finance or a comparable transaction-focused environment. Applicants should demonstrate involvement in complex transactions and clearly explain the workstreams they personally led or owned.
Strong financial modelling, valuation, commercial judgement, negotiation, cross-functional leadership and executive communication skills are required. A tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, economics, commerce or a related discipline is expected, although equivalent experience may be considered.
Mining experience is not essential, making this an opportunity for commercially experienced transaction professionals who can apply their expertise in the resources industry.
Compensation and application
Fortescue's published listing does not provide a specific salary range or confirmed bonus figure. These would need to be discussed with the employer. Applications are submitted through its official careers portal, and the company may close the vacancy early if a suitable candidate pool is identified.
