Position Overview

The Regional Operations Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership for physician-practice management initiatives across designated markets and clinical service areas. The role is responsible for aligning practice operations with organizational objectives, strengthening financial and operational performance, supporting physician relationships, and identifying opportunities for network development and business growth.

The position works closely with senior leadership, including the CEO, CFO, and physician-group leadership, to translate strategic priorities into operating plans, performance improvements, and sustainable business results.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and operational leadership: Translate executive-level objectives into operational plans, performance targets, and initiatives that strengthen physician-practice operations.

Practice operations management: Oversee operational effectiveness across designated practices, including staffing, productivity, workflow improvement, resource allocation, and service delivery.

Physician relationships and workforce development: Support physician recruitment and retention, contracting, compensation strategies, medical-staff relations, and collaborative relationships with clinical leaders.

Financial oversight: Work with finance leadership to develop operating plans, monitor financial performance, improve cost efficiency, and evaluate productivity and resource utilization.

Network development and expansion: Identify opportunities to expand services, strengthen market presence, support acquisitions, and integrate operations where applicable.

Business development: Evaluate opportunities to build strategic relationships, strengthen physician partnerships, retain market share, and support the growth of the physician-practice network.

Performance improvement: Assess existing practice-management models and implement improvements that enhance operational efficiency, financial sustainability, and service quality.

Compliance and organizational effectiveness: Ensure that operational programs and management practices align with applicable healthcare regulations, organizational policies, and established standards.

Cross-functional leadership: Collaborate with executive leadership, physician-group management, finance, human resources, and other departments to achieve organizational goals.

Leadership Expectations

This is a senior operations position requiring the ability to connect organizational strategy with day-to-day operational execution. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate sound business judgment, financial and operational discipline, collaborative leadership, and the ability to improve performance across a complex healthcare environment.

The role also calls for experience managing physician-practice operations, navigating relationships with physicians and clinical leaders, developing effective management teams, and supporting growth across multiple locations or service areas.

Qualifications and Experience

The published listing specifies the following requirements:

A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.

A master's degree is preferred.

At least eight years of progressive management experience in a medium-to-large multispecialty group practice.

Five years of experience involving practice management and operations, contracting, and medical-staff relations within the relevant division of expertise.

Extensive knowledge of healthcare industry developments, group-practice management, compliance requirements, and network-development models.

Demonstrated ability to build productive partnerships and implement effective service-delivery and operational programs.

Location and Work Arrangement

The position is based in Memphis, Tennessee, with a full-time, day-shift schedule. The published description identifies an office-based work environment. The listing does not establish that the role is remote or hybrid, so those arrangements would need to be clarified with the employer if they are important considerations.

Strategic Priorities of the Role

The position's central priorities are to strengthen physician-practice performance, improve financial and operational efficiency, develop physician relationships, support recruitment and retention, and expand the organization's practice network where appropriate. It also involves aligning local operational execution with broader organizational objectives and ensuring that growth initiatives remain sustainable.

WHY I THOUGHT THIS OPPORTUNITY WAS WORTH SHARING

Your experience overseeing multiple outpatient clinics, leading clinical and operational teams, supporting new clinic openings, and working across regional healthcare operations provides relevant transferable experience for several aspects of this position. The opportunity could allow you to explore a broader operational leadership remit beyond physical therapy.

At the same time, I want to be transparent that the employer specifically requests substantial multispecialty physician-practice management experience, including contracting and medical-staff relations. Those requirements differ from some aspects of a physical therapy leadership role, and your fit would need to be assessed against them. I would not want to overstate the alignment before those points are clarified.

Thomas, kindly review the full job description and the organization's website at your convenience. Please let me know whether the responsibilities, leadership scope, and Memphis location are of interest to you. If the opportunity aligns with what you would consider for your next step, I can explore the relevant details further and clarify any outstanding questions before we determine the appropriate next steps.

I appreciate the thoughtful and candid way you have approached these discussions, and I want any opportunity I bring to you to merit your consideration on its actual substance.

Best Regards.
